Mosquitoes have a single pair of wings covered in tiny scales. They have thin legs and adult mosquitoes range from 3 to 9mm. Mosquitoes belong to the group called Diptera. These insects are usually confused with flies. Unlike mosquitoes, flies will not bite and long-legged flies are much smaller than mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are recognized as irritating pests and can spread disease such as the well-known West Nile virus among others that threaten health.According to the World Health Organization, more than one million people die from mosquito-borne diseases annually.
