Pest pressure in New York is seasonal and reasonably predictable. Planning around it costs far less than reacting to it.
Spring, March to May
Ant activity begins as soil warms, and carpenter ants become visible around damp timber. Termite swarms, where they occur in the region, happen in this window. Good time for exterior inspection and drainage checks.
Summer, June to August
Cockroach activity peaks with heat and humidity, and fly pressure rises around commercial waste. Restaurants should tighten waste handling and drain maintenance now.
Autumn, September to November
The heaviest rodent season. Falling temperatures drive rats and mice indoors. Exclusion work done in September is worth more than treatment in December.
Winter, December to February
Rodents already inside become more visible as they range further for food. Bed bug calls rise with holiday travel. Quietest season for insects, and the best time for structural work.
